TCU offers various leave benefits to all eligible employees.

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of 1993

Policy: HR 6.020 - Family Medical Leave Act. The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides unpaid, job-protected leave for eligible employees with qualifying events for themselves or an eligible family member for up to 12 weeks per twelve-month period.

As a best practice, if an employee is absent from work due to a personal or family-member’s illness for three or more days, contact Human Resources FMLA/ADA@tcu.edu. The Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, provides comprehensive information about FMLA on their website.

Leaves of Absence

Policy: HR 6.025 - Leaves of Absence. TCU employees have access to leave with and without pay for a number of eligible events. This policy provides more information.

Sick Leave

Policy: HR 6.015 - Sick Leave. Eligible employees accrue sick leave, which is used for minor illness, injury and/or routine health visits for themselves as well as their immediate family members.

Staff Vacation

Policy: HR 6.001- Staff Vacation. Exempt and non-exempt staff who work in a regular position 100% full-time accrue vacation at the rate of 14.67 hours per month (22 days per year). Staff employees who work at least 50% time (.50 FTE) in a regular position, but less than 100% (1.0 FTE), accrue vacation on a prorated basis according to the percentage of time worked.

Staff Paid Parental Leave

Policy: HR 6.010 - Paid Parental Leave. The University is committed to supporting employees who become parents through the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Paid Parental Leave (PPL) may be used during the 12 months immediately following the birth, adoption, or foster placement of the child, if eligibility requirements are met. The use of PPL is triggered by the date of birth. The staff employee must be at least 75% (.75 FTE) and employed in a benefits- eligible position for at least 12 months to be eligible for this leave.

Electronic Reporting of Leave Time

Requests for most staff members’ leave and use of leave are submitted through my.tcu.edu, the Employee Self-Service portal.
